WELCOME DON & NUNSLAUGHTER ! HOW WAS THE LAST SHOW ? ONE NIGHT IN HELL ?

Greetings ! The last show for NUNSLAUGHTER went well. We did a show in New York City and we had a chance to catch up with many friends and fiends. It was not One Night In Hell but it served a purpose. We always bring the HELL !

TO THOSE WHO STILL DO NOT KNOW WHO'S THE HELL IS NUNSLAUGHTER, DO TELL THEM WHAT THEY SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE BAND ...

We are a Death Metal band that released our first demo in 1987 and have not stopped releasing metal music since our inception. NUNSLAUGHTER has about 120 releases under our belt. We have remained an underground band even through all of these years. 2012 will be 25 years for us and we have no plans to stop writing, releasing and touring. We are one of the longest consistently running bands in the underground.

'METAL IS DEATH DEATH IS METAL NUNSLAUGHTER DEATH METAL' ... CARE TO ELEBORATE ?

Our drummer Jim Sadist came up with this about 12-13 years ago when we needed a slogan for the back of a shirt. I liked it so much, we never gave it up. For me, it means we are nothing more or less a Death Metal band.

THE FANS ESPECIALLY IN MALAYSIA & SINGAPORE ARE EXCITED AS SOON AS NEWS BROKE THAT NUNSLAUGHTER WILL BE COMING TO SOUTH EAST ASIA. HOW DO YOU FINALLY DECIDED TO COME ?

That is great to hear we are welcome. It takes an enormous amount of time to make the right connections and get everyone on board to do even a small tour. Since we all have jobs outside the band, timing is everything. It just so happens that now is the perfect time. Everything lined up perfectly. We are very excited to play for all the metal maniacs in your part of the world.

ANYTHING SPECIAL PLANNED FOR THE TOUR ? SETLIST ? WILL WE GET CLASSICS LIKE "DEATH BY THE DEAD", "I AM DEATH", "KILLED BY THE CROSS" ETC ?

HELL, just having us play for you is special. This is such an honour to come to South East Asia. We will bring all the HELL you can imagine. We currently know about 45-50 songs and our set list contains usually 18-20 tracks but we can always do more. We still have a different set list every night. Jim Sadist makes up the list, so if you have suggestions or requests, let him know when we arrive and if we know it, we will play it for sure.

A DVD RECORDING WOULD ALSO SOUNDS KILLER LIKE 'METAL ASSAULT IN AUSTRALIA', 'DAMNED IN JAPAN' OR THE RARE 'HELLIDELPHIA' ? IF YES, THE CROWDS DEFINITELY NEED TO BE LOUD AND GET HEARD ... HA! HA!

That is an excellent idea. I will have my camera rolling but I request anyone that wants to record the show on video or audio, please do so and send me a copy. The more camera angles and source tapes, the better.

Metal Assault Series

DO YOU PREFER TO HAVE AN OFFICIAL 'MEET AND GREET SESSION' WITH THE CROWDS OR JUST SIMPLY HANGING OUT WHENEVER POSSIBLE WITH THEM BEFORE & AFTER THE SHOWS ?

I prefer to just hang out and meet people but sometimes it is easier to talk to people at a Meet & Greet. That way people can bring their records and posters to sign. In Japan, there were always after parties and that was when we had the most fun. Nothing better than sharing some beers and food with new friends.

SINCE WE HAVE A FEW MONTHS TO GO, ANY PLAN TO INCLUDE MORE DATES ? INDONESIA PERHAPS ?

We wanted to do a bit of an expanded tour but plans did not work out. We are only able to stay away from work for so long. It would be nice to do all shows on a Friday or Saturday but this was not possible. Our flights are purchased and our time is limited. So we have no plans to include any other dates.

YOU DID JAPAN BACK IN 2005. HOW WAS THE EXPERIENCE PERFORMING IN ASIAN SHORES FOR THE FIRST TIME ? YOU DID SAID LONG BEFORE THAT JAPAN IS WHERE THE REAL METAL FREAKS LIVE, SO DID IT TURNED OUT RIGHT ?

We did 4 shows in Japan. Absolutely unbelievable since I have wanted to go to Japan for so many years and to finally be there and experience the people and culture was amazing. Japan did not dissapoint any of us. We were so taken aback by the kindness of the people and then for them to be such maniacs for metal, it blew me away.

THAILAND HAS ALWAYS BEEN SUPPORTIVE TO NUNSLAUGHTER BACK THEN WITH 'WITCHHAMMER PRODUCTIONS' AND 'IN COFFIN PRODUCTIONS' RELEASING CASSETTE TAPES OF 'ONE NIGHT IN HELL', 'SPLIT-TAPE WITH SABBAT', 'GOAT' ETC ? SO ARE YOU EXCITED TO MEET ALL THE THAILAND METAL MANIACS ?

Yes and I am forever grateful to Witchhammer and In Coffin Productions. They really gave NUNSLAUGHTER exposure in that part of the world and I can't help to believe that without their help, we would not be doing these shows. That shows what the underground and dedication can do when we stand united. I am so interested in how we will be received. After playing in so many countries, I think it is amazing how similiar we all are when it comes to our passion for metal music. I plan on learning about and meeting many bands.

THERE WAS ALSO A NUNSLAUGHTER COMPILATION ALBUM - 'THE DAY WE DIE' ON CASSETTE TAPE DONE BY OUR MALAYSIAN OWN 'RHAPSODEATH PRODUCTIONS' BACK IN 2002. THEY ALSO DID 'NUNSLAUGHTER/SPAWN OF SATAN SPLIT LIVE CD'. DO YOU STILL REMEMBER ? YOUR EXPECTATION WHEN NUNSLAUGHTER PLAYS MALAYSIA AND SINGAPORE ? ARE YOU FIMILIAR WITH THE METAL SCENE HERE ?

I totally remember Rhapsodeath. He may have been the very first contact and exposure for NUNSLAUGHTER in your part of the world. I am unfimiliar with the metal scene there but that what is great about touring. I am sure I will come home with lots of music and a healthy respect for South East Asia metal scene.

FOR THOSE WHO LOVES CASSETTE TAPES, IT WAS POSITIVE TO SEE SEVERAL CASSETTE TAPES RELEASES SO FAR IN 2011. ANY NEW ONE IN STORE FOR 2012 PERHAPS ?

Not at this time but I am looking for more labels to release NUNSLAUGHTER on tape. So if there is anyone interested, please get in contact.

WHAT REALLY INSPIRED AND KEPT NUNSLAUGHTER GOIN' SINCE 1987 (FOR THE LAST 25 FUCKIN' LONG YEARS) AND KEEP ON BEING PRODUCTIVE ?

It is simple. I have nothing else in my life except metal music. I have things I want to create and this is how I have chosen to express myself. I'm fortunate that I found a person that shares the same concept of the band as I do and we have been working together for 16 years together.

DO YOU COME INTO A SITUATION THAT YOU LOST COUNT ON ALL THE RECORDS THAT NUNSLAUGHTER HAS RELEASED SO FAR ? HOW WAS THE EXPERIENCE DEALING WITH ALL THE RECORD LABELS EVERYWHERE ?

Yes, this happen more and more all the time. I have difficulty remembering on what record a song came out on. Dealing with record labels is very difficult but in the end, it is rewarding. Some have taken years to realize the release. Life happens and you gotta' keep getting on.

IS THERE ANY OLD RECORDINGS STILL UNRELEASED YET ? WHEN CAN WE EXPECT A NEW ALBUM FROM NUNSLAUGHTER ?

I have some older rehearsals that have never seen the light of day but I may use them on a release in the future. Currently, we are working on another full length studio LP. Hope to see that by mid this year.

WHICH IS YOUR FAVORITE NUNSLAUGHTER RELEASE BY THE WAY ?

Not sure what would be my favorite release. I like them for all different reasons. Some because of the band on the other side. Some because of the layout and some because of the recording. I would say I am most proud of 'Hells Unholy Fire' as it took forever to get that record out. Jim Sadist and I went through HELL to get it recorded.

TELL US ABOUT THE LABEL - 'NUNSLAUGHTER RECORDS' ? IS THE LABEL DEDICATED TO NUNSLAUGHTER ONLY ? WILL THERE BY ANY POSSIBILITY OF SIGNING UP OTHER BAND IN THE FUTURE ?

It is now. But in the past, I had releases by Massacre, Morsure, Gravewurm and Slaughter. Now I just use it to release NUNSLAUGHTER. I don't plan on releasing any other bands but you never know.

THE ALBUM 'GOAT' HAS JUST BEEN RE-ISSUED IN DIGIPACK (WITH BONUS LIVE TRACKS) UNDER 'NUNSLAUGHTER RECORDS'. WHAT IS NEXT IN PLAN ? ARE ALL THE OLDER RELEASES UNDER 'NUNSLAUGHTER RECORDS' STILL AVAILABLE SOMEWHERE SOMEHOW ?

I may try to release the back catalog of NUNSLAUGHTER on Digi with bonus material but that is wicked hard to get proper distribution. I would rather have a real label releases the material and have it available globally.

WE ALWAYS WANTED TO ASK YOU THIS - HOW DID YOU GET 'JEFF BECERRA (POSSESSED)' TO DO THE LYRIC FOR THE TRACK "THOU ART IN THE KINGDOM OF HELL" ? YOU GUYS HANG OUT TOGETHER ?

Back when we were wtiting the 'Goat' LP, I became reacquainted with Jeff. I have lost touch with him for many years and once Sadistic Intent had him to do some vocal for them, I got back in touch. What I liked about the 80's Death Metal lyric is that they do not tell a story, they just have many evil thoughts strung together. I have a difficult time doing that so I asked Jeff to write some down. It fit perfectly with the music of "Thou Art In The Kingdom Of Hell".

WHAT'S YOUR FRANK OPINION ON THE CURRENT METAL SCENE ?

Growing but people are not wary enough. We must be vigilant and not let corporate music invade the underground. We are becoming too accepting and I think some musicians strive to break through and become the next big band. This compromises the underground metal scene.

WE WONDER WHAT HAPPENED TO 'KEITH & ETERNAL DARKNESS FANZINE' ? IS HE STILL ACTIVE ?

I have not talked to Keith in a very long time. He was a very dedicated metalist and I hope he resurfaces.

NUNSLAUGHTER : HELLBANGERS TOUR 2012 - SOUTH EAST ASIA : JOHOR BAHRU - MALAYSIA : 24/03/2012

Hells Unholy Fire ! The mighty NUNSLAUGHTER will finally arrive in MALAYSIA. We are fuckin' excited since DON & NUNSLAUGHTER is one of USA oldest bands, originally from Pittsburg - having been around since 1987 with so many records out. Though they are quite an obscure act to many as they prefer to stay deep in the underground, you all should not miss this one at any cost.

Supporting act will be JOHOR's own Thrash/Power Metal outfit - LOGAM and everybody should know AS SAHAR from SINGAPORE. NUNSLAUGHTER will also invade THAILAND (22/03), SINGAPORE (23/03) and BORNEO (25/03).

There are plans for a LIMITED tour shirt for the JOHOR BAHRU show and we expected that it's goin' to sell out really fast. You need to wear one as it will be one night in hell. SEARCH - Malaysian legendary rock & roll band celebrates their 30th Anniversary. So, nothing could be wrong, not even the heavy down pour will stop the City of Rock & Roll from rockin' tonite. No opening band, as the technical staffs were braving thru all odds to set the stage right. The field has already turned into pool of mud everywhere. It looks that the crowds are goin' to have so much fun ...

The set was the best we've ever seen. There was pyro at the stage front - simply incredible. The rain just stop and SEARCH hit the stage at about 9.00 pm.

The only setback was SEARCH should start the set with "Fenomena", it's 'Konsert Fenomena 30 Tahun' afterall. It will be an explosive start if they did, especially with the crowds who have waited impatiently as early as 5.00 pm. Momentum was already building, it was ready to be unleashed. Instead, it was "Panggung Khayalan", an anticlimax -which temporary killed the adrenalin rush. Next was "Gothik Malam Edan". The first 2 songs were well delivered and accepted, but there was still something missing - that punch !

Finally it came - "Fenomena'', being the the 3rd song of the night. It was the explosion that we all have been waiting for. SEARCH nailed it, the crowds were singing along and we sang just like the good old days. It was phenomenal, and the rest was history.

Just wait for the DVD, hopefully to be released in 2012. Or else don't miss the next show in Kuala Lumpur (17/12/2011). Have a blast !

CHILDREN OF BODOM : REVIEW : 'THE UGLY WORLD TOUR 2011' - LIVE IN SINGAPORE

For the very first time, we have arranged that the review will be done by other people, not from the editorial (perhaps we would like to continue on few other shows as well. Those who would like to share their experience, do email us at metalreign@yahoo.com, we see how).

We known SHAH for a very long time and he has always been a brother to the editorial. An incredible guitarist himself and presently active jamming with few bands back in his hometown. CHILDREN OF BODOM simply rocks him.

Here is his side of the story :-

It has been 14 years since I got my first COB album 'Something Wild', listening to their debut album awed me to their musical style. A mix of melodic, black, heavy metal and classical all in one arrangement, beautiful but yet vicious. It was also the first time I heard the name ALEXI LAIHO, singer and the lead guitarist for COB. To my amazement how could this guy sings and at the same time shred his guitar, it’s impossible. I remember I kept on playing the cassette until it was broken and had to get myself another one. Then I saw COB live performance videos, indeed all those doubts about ALEXI LAIHO proved wrong. He showed the world what he and his band are made of, nevertheless COB is a band to look forward to.

14 years has passed, today COB is one of the successful bands in the metal industry releasing a total number of seven studio albums and the band consists of ALEXI LAIHO (vocal/lead guitar), ROOPE LATVALA (rhythm guitar), JANNE WIRMAN (keyboard), HENKKA SEPPALA (bass) and JASKA RAATIKAINEN (drum). 17^th of November marks the date of the first COB's 'The Ugly World Tour' Live in Singapore, and it would also be my first COB concert.

I had a mixed feeling about going to the concert, but my friends - FIRDAUS and FARIZ persuaded and convinced me that we’re going to get ourselves one hell of a performance from COB. Along with SARAJA from the editorial, we got the Hate Crew Pit tickets which entitled us for an early entry + front of the stage + concert poster & hate crew pass.

Come forth 17^thNovember, we set off our journey to Singapore looking forward to a memorable night in Fort Canning Park. We were at the Fort Canning carpark as early as 4.00 pm and there I spotted ROOPE LATVALA and JASKA RAATIKAINEN making their way to their car which was parked right beside us. SARAJA got off the car and asked whether we could take a picture with them, unfortunately one of the crew member declines. Well, we didn’t get the chance to take a photo with them but we’re still excited about the concert.

I was amazed that the concert is going to take stage in a park and surrounded by lots of greens, a pretty sight. We made our way to the concert venue to collect our tickets and get us some merchandise but when we got there, the organizer was still setting up the area and told us to wait till 5.00 pm to collect the tickets. By 5.00 pm, I tried to check out with the organizer but they were still making arrangements of the place. At 5.30 pm, it rained heavily for about almost an hour and we were only able to queue by 7.00 pm to collect our tickets and made entrance to the concert area. There was a bit of a hiccup at the entrance whereby the organizer didn’t have my ticket but lucky me, I had the booking print out with me.

After we collect our posters and passes, we went straight to the merchandise area to get hold of COB Concert t-shirt as we still have time till 8.00 pm. But to our disappointment there were no COB t-shirts, except for one girlie COB t-shirt, the one and only which I manage to grab for a friend. All they were selling there was t-shirts of other bands.

We made our way to stage, SARAJA chose to go to the right, while FIRDAUS, FARIZ and myself was aiming for the center. We were at the third row and I told FIRDAUS and FARIZ to stick close to me because I’m going to sneak and squeeze my way through to the front. And guess what, I managed to get myself and the others to the front row, right in the center and right in front of ALEXI LAIHO. If you ask me how I do it, I would say it’s purely a matter of patience and getting in at the right time. Once we got hold of the center area, it was all about protecting our Fortress of Solitude because things are going to get crazy and we might being pushed away, but at the end of the night we were still intact at our Fortress of Solitude.

The stage was set and everyone was chanting 'BODOM', and by 8.00 pm, COB made their way to the stage and the crowd goes wild. The opening song "Relentless Reckless Forever" was from their latest album and ALEXI LAIHO took the stage with his ESP signature guitar and just reaps the crowd away. A total number of 16 songs were played in 90 minutes non-stop performance by COB. During the mid of the concert, the fence that separates the GA ticket holders was torn down and the crowd at the front stage gets bigger and wilder with mosh pits and slamming at the center.

I really enjoyed myself when COB played their older stuff from the first 3 albums. A medley of "Children of Bodom" and "Deadnight Warrior" followed with "Hate Me" was the highlight moment of the concert for me. After the 3^rd song, JANNE WIRMAN announced that there was some technical issue with the monitor but COB didn’t disappointed their fans and kept on playing. The sound stage and the lighting settings was the best and almost perfect except for the monitor. While the showmanship by COB was tremendously outstanding, enthusiastic and energetic throughout.

It was one hell of a night when COB took the stage and reaped the crowd apart, as ALEXI LAIHO would say - Let’s Reap and Roll.

Facts :-

1) We don't owned any of the albums. Finnish Melodic Death Metal - a total opposite from what Finland stands out for - BEHERIT and IMPALED NAZARENE - though ALEXI LAIHO did played in IMPALED NAZARENE's album 'Nihil' (2000). Perhaps, the only track we remembered was "Lake Bodom" and that was back from 'Something Wild" (1997). We arrived in Singapore only to answer this one question - is ALEXI LAIHO really that good ?

2) The open air venue at Fort Canning was perfect.

3) We arrived at Fort Canning carpark quite early around 4.00 pm, and as we were about to step out, ROOPE LATVALA (guitar) and JASKA RAATIKAINEN (drum) appeared with a local crew member - they were heading towards the car parked just beside us. We asked permission to take photo with them but they refused with a straight no, for whatever fuck reason. Perhaps, they noticed that we were not the diehard Hate Crew and it was written all over our faces. Probably they are rushing into something (which didn't looked so, as this one local crew member was still able to take a pose with them before drove them away). Perhaps big band like CHILDREN OF BODOM don't give a fuck to the fan no more.

4) TICKETBOOTH suck big time ! We came early to collect our Hate Crew Pit ticket. But it was until the last hour before their official showed up and we finally got our ticket. The ticket booth (for collection) should be set-up outside the entrance.

5) No tour shirt ?! The merchandise stand was the biggest let down of the night. It was selling other bands t-shirts and CDs. What the fuck !

While, this is the shirt for 'The Ugly World Tour 2011 - Australia'. Though without date (back print : 'Relentless Reckless Forever'), at least there was one.

6) The General Admission ticket holders broke down the barrier and stormed into the Hate Crew Pit during the middle of the show. Totally wild & chaos ! Earlier, the Hate Crew Pit was not even half full. Having them in really got the atmosphere burning. All the kids were having tremendous time, and we are happy for them.

7) CHILDREN OF BODOM fuckin' rock on stage ! The set was tight and the sound was excellent ! A great show indeed !

8) Again, the crowds were amazing ! All the kids were having so much fun. It was one great moment to look at.

9) We finally agreed. Yes, ALEXI LAIHO was one hell of a guitarist/frontman. So were JASKA RAAKITAINEN (superb drumming & killer double pedal) and HENKKA SEPPALA (strong stage presence).

10) We have arranged that the review this time will be done by a metal brother, a CHILDREN OF BODOM diehard. He was at the front row of the Hate Crew Pit - facing centre stage - eye to eye with ALEXI LAIHO.

DESTRUCTION : RECKONING 2011 - ASIA & AUSTRALIA TOUR : THE PAVILION - SINGAPORE : 30/10/2011

Finally, German Thrash legend - DESTRUCTION hits ASIA - started with TAIWAN (27/10), then THAILAND (29/10), SINGAPORE (30/10) and INDONESIA (01/11). They will invade AUSTRALIA next for another 4 dates, before heading to Thrashfest Classic European Tour.

Frankly, though we still look forward to see them on stage - to throw a big welcome to the legendary SCHMIER (vocal/bass) and MIKE (guitar) plus the new drummer - VAAVER, the volcanic excitement however has long melted down. Imagine - how things will be different to all the Thrash Metal diehards (especially the older generations) if they were here during their prime years : 'Sentence of Death' (1984) - 'Infernal Overkill' (1985) - 'Mad Butcher' (1987) - 'Release From Agony' (1988). On second thought, it is probably impossible at that point of time. Perhaps 11 years earlier when the band first reformed with SCHMIER and released 'All Hell Breaks Loose' (2000). That sounds good enough ! Nevertheless, a big thank to CYNICAL SOUNDS for this rare experience.

Unfortunately, we've already succumbed into metal hibernation when the band unleashed 'The Antichrist' (2001), 'Metal Discharge' (2003), 'Inventor Of Evil' (2005), 'D.E.V.O.L.U.T.I.O.N' (2008) and 'Day Of Reckoning' (2011).

Approximately 27 fuckin' long years after 'Sentence Of Death' plus another 1-1/2 hours more, the onslaught began at nearly 9.00 pm (schedully - 7.30 pm, probably due to technical setbacks), thrashing the crowds with "Curse The Gods" (from 'Eternal Devastation'). Unbelievable - it was DESTRUCTION on stage - thrashing madness ! We wore the biggest smile probably at that point of time.

"Finally, DESTRUCTION in SINGAPORE. We know you guys waited for a long time and so did we. We know there are people from MALAYSIA are here too ... welcome " - and this is what SCHMIER said in return to the maniacal crowds.

From their best album - 'Infernal Overkill', they gave us classics like "Tormentor" and "Death Trap" (yeargh). While, "Bestial Invasion" came out as the last song (before they came back later for encore) and earlier, SCHMIER was saying that many of you waited for this one song ... Bestial Invasion Singapore ! It was total chaos - "hell storms, rush over the earth ... Bestial Invasion !".

Definitely the right choice from 'Eternal Devastation" when they also nailed "Eternal Ban" and "Life Without Sense" - nostalgic.

We expected that they will do "Release From Agony", but unfortunely no. To those who still have this big picture of DESTRUCTION with bullet belts that run across their chest ('Sentence Of Death') must be happy with "Mad Butcher" and "Total Desaster".

They also delivered tracks from those latest albums - All Hell Breaks Loose' to 'Days Of Reckoning', which we are not that fimiliar with.

But the sound suffered for the the first few sets, especially the standing mic at far left, pissing SCHMIER off that he just can't continue like that. Things eventually came out excellently.

The band ended this one crazy night, speaking about bringing along SODOM and KREATOR to SINGAPORE next time as well as MALAYSIA and PHILIPINNES. Sounds killer ! SCHMIER was notably friendly, shaking hands will all the killer fans at the front, perhaps thanking them for the gigantic response. Even during their set, there were 3 standing mics located at the left, right and center stage, giving the surrounding crowds equal chances to connect with SCHMIER. We respect that ! While, MIKE was outstanding.

It will be more memorable if there was a tour shirt available (then again, it was quite rare to track tour shirts from DESTRUCTION - possibily they are not really into it). We also wonder what happen to the Meet & Greet Session (schedully after the show), does it took place ? Most of the fans who waited outside the venue finally make their way home. So did us.

Though the show collides with WHITESNAKE in KUALA LUMPUR, we never had to choose. It was DESTRUCTION all the way from the start. Sorry COVERDALE ...

The crowds was fuckin' wild last night. From the look of his face, MINORU NIIHARA was satisfied with how Kuala Lumpur responded towards LOUDNESS. "We should have been here earlier" and this is what he did said in regret.

The venue - KL LIVE was fully packed with about 3,000 maniacs turned out to celebrate the classic LOUDNESS line-up of MINORU NIIHARA (vocal), AKIRA TAKASAKI (guitar) and MASAYOSHI YAMASHITA (bass), as well as MASAYUKI SUZUKI (new drummer). The atmosphere was magical when the crowds started to sing along to old classic especially "Crazy Nights", "Heavy Chains" and "So Lonely" (from another older album 'Hurricane Eyes'). After taking the band photo on stage with the cheering crowds at the back, MINORU asked "Do you wanna go crazy ?" and a big yes came soaring. "Crazy Nights" was a nostalgic trip back as the album - 'Thunder In The East' was the first album we started with LOUDNESS ("Crazy Nights" was the 1st track in the album apparently). From where we stand, we've already started jumping when the riffs exploded and then came the screaming "Rock & Roll Crazy Night. You are the heroes tonight ...". There was also this earth shaking "Hey Hey Hey" from all the crowds.

All jaws dropped when guitar wizard - AKIRA showcased his magical fretworks in "Exploder". In friendly manner, also tossing his guitar pick to the crowds, as well as to where we stand at the right corner of the stage (AKIRA side). While, those who fortunately got the drumstick from MASAYUKI will surely have a sleepless night. Good catch !

The KL show must be special as LOUDNESS ended the show with 2 sets of encore after the crowds demanded for more. Another blown out trip back to the 80's, first with "Let It Go" and "Like Hell", and finally wrapped it with "S.D.I.".

Earlier, opening bands like the all-grrl band SHEWOLVES and rock veterans SATIRA and SOFEA managed to get the adrenalin pumping before LOUDNESS came out and brake all necks. An amazing show !

This is the debut album of the mighty FURIA that was known to put to shame to so many metal albums. The album title 'Martwa Polska Jesien' means 'The Dead Polish Autumn'.

For those who are fimiliar with the hell that FURIA brings in each of its releases, then get this one at any cost as this is where the madness begins. Though we already have the album intact in our collection, these 6 tracks really deserved a must have digipack release.

Strange, never heard the name MORDHELL before ? But the band already has a firm footing in the scene, started with 'Sadistic Pleasure' demo (2003). This was followed by 'Cut Yourself And Die' EP (2004) and 'Suicide Blood' MCD (2006) as well as a 3-way split album (2007). They later released their debut album 'Grim, Old And Evil' (2008) under FALLEN ANGEL 666 with 13 tracks. The number 13 continues to play an important role with 'Suffer In Hell' later

MORDHELL is ugly, raw and heavy Black Heavy Metal with strong Punk riffs - giving you the dose of Black 'N' Roll (the term 'Black 'N' Roll' is getting trendy so as to speak). What do you expect from a band that worsipped sex and alcohol and came with killer psoudname like NEKROPHILIAC (vocal), BLOODWHIP (guitar), DEFEKATOR (guitar), GRAVE (bass) and DIABOLIZER (drum) ? Total destruction off course ! The riffs are simple yet effective, and MORDHELL nailed it right by playing it short most of the times (8 tracks are less that 3-minutes) as to avoid getting caught with the repetitiveness. The drumming was superb. Musical wise, the band reminds us strongly of DODSFERD/NADIWRATH though (without the slower part & guitar solo). Again, there are 13 tracks here (as we told you earlier).

The album opened with "Smelling Of Burning Skin" and we immediately knew that that we really gonna' like this. It got crazy every minutes, and you get "Alcoholic Titfuckblast", "You Are My Fucking Pornostar" and "Graveyard Fuck" later. It then ended brilliantly with "Possessed By Alcohol". Fantastic !

Despite our terrible time constraint, it is always excited to receive new promos from Tomasz and PAGAN RECORDS. We are not sure how many of you remember the mighty PANDEMONIUM, one of Poland's oldest might. The mainman - the duo of Paul (guitar) and Peter (drum) spawned the band back in 1989 and back then, they were a force to be reckoned with.

On the back of immense pressures - musically, the duo later collided and hurt PANDEMONIUM beyond healing. What to follow next was a sad written history. We are not aware of what happened to the band then onward. Until later in 1998, when Jaro Slav of LUX OCCULTA (Polish finest Occult Death Metal band, and yes, signed under PAGAN RECORDS) told us that Peter died of cancer.

We received this promo quite late but its great to hear that PAUL has ressurected PANDEMONIUM. There are 2-tracks here - "A Black Forest" and "A God Delusion", giving us the hint on what to expect from their new album 'Misanthropy'. Musically, PANDEMONIUM is throat cutting, killer majestic Death/Black Metal. The tracks, especially "A Black Forest" was brilliantly structured with killer mesmerising riffs. Strangely, we felt vibe of MONUMENTUM presence. They are fuckin' back ! It's PANDEMONIUM !

It took most of us more that 20 years after 'Altar of Madness' (1989) to finally catch Floridian cult MORBID ANGEL on stage. Salute to the mighty CYNICAL SOUNDS for bringing this Death Metal legend to our part of the world. Though sadly without PETE SANDOVAL (drum), the classic duo of TREY AZAGTHOTH (guitar) and DAVID VINCENT (vocal/bass) will be there to raise hell in Singapore. They will have DESTRUCTHOR (guitar) and TIM YEOUNG (drum) for the tour.

Simply, those who missed the show for whatever reasons should get their head banged on the wall. This is MORBID ANGEL for hell sake ! Schedully tight as hell, we still managed to get the ticket at the very last hours (thanks to Fadhil of MUZIK BOX PRODUCTION). Onward to 'Illud Divinum Insanus World Tour 2011'.

With the album 'Abominations Of Desolation' close to heart, we were definitely ready to be part of this new made history - 'Abominations Of Desolation' is the band's earlier 1986 demo that was only released later in 1991 to strike out the bootleg of the said recording. It was the works of only TREY AZAGTHOTH (guitar) and MIKE BROWNING (drum/vocal) with DAVID VINCENT producing it (who later joined the band with PETE SANDOVAL and RICHARD BRUNELLE and the rest was history).

The stage was brimming in blood red light, promoting the new album. There should be about 700 who turned out for the show and based on our ticket that night, we were numbered 646. We purposely take our stand at TREY's side, with intention to get a perfect close up on this legendary axeman. The wait was too long to just simply stand at the back and looking at the band from a distance, no way ! No opening band as well, which was brilliant as we don't think that the crowds still have the patience to wait. Some even have started chanting the band's name.

Then it started ! "Immortal Rites" being the first track bringing the crowds back to 'Altar Of Madness' era, which was an instant chaos. From the same album, we also got "Maze Of Torment" and "Blasphemy" as well as all time classics from 'Abomination of Desolation - "Lord Of All Fevers" and "Chapel Of Ghouls". We just can't hold ourselves when "Angel Of Disease" shaked the Singapore ground. Definitely priceless ! The setlist was simply incredible - mostly from their first 3 historical albums - 'Altar Of Madness' (1989), "Blessed Are The Sick" (1991) and 'Covenant' (1993), which appears to celebrate the older fans who never dreamt of getting to see the band live on stage. Truly a legendary show !

WINGS : OPERA HIDUP ROCKESTRA : ISTANA BUDAYA - MALAYSIA : 29/04/2011

2.00 pm : Highway To Heaven

It took us more than a 3 hours drive from Down South to the capital city of Malaysia - Kuala Lumpur. Tonight, WINGS will take the stage at the prestigious ISTANA BUDAYA for their OPERA HIDUP CONCERT (3 days event : 29th April - 1st May). Its a biggest recognition for a rock band to play there and to be accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra (Okestra Simfoni Kebangsaan). This proved that their 25 long years was never a waste. To be there at the first show was always fuckin' killer. No expectation, only adrenaline rush ! Excited ? Yes we are ! To witness the songs we grew up listening to transformed into orchestral monster, that's fuckin' exciting !

The venue was sold out ! It's goin' to be an intimate show in a sense, able to house about 7000 fans at one time. We will take our seat an the centre of Grand Circle.

5.30 pm : Lay Down Your Soul To The God of Rock 'N' Roll

We checked in somewhere in Bukit Bintang (translated as Star Hill) and refreshed ourselves. The show will only start at 8.30 pm.

8.00 pm : Entering Istana Budaya

After having a light dinner nearby, we entered into Istana Budaya and went straight to the merchandise stand as always, checking out shirts and other goodies. The show need to be remembered and we need to have something that are able to bring us back to that magical moment. Simply because we were there !

Entering Istana Budaya was never easy. No round necks, no camera (though we are able to sneak it in and later found out that there will be light pointed out to you whenever you tried to snap photo, and there came the security).

8.30 pm - 10.45 pm : Rock You Like A Hurricane

WINGS was excellent as always (great sound system by the way), belting numbers from their debut album - 'Belenggu Irama' (1987) up to the period where the band survived with guest vocals - MUS (of the legendary MAY) and MEL. We also got special appearance from SHAM (original guitarist, who only appeared in the band's debut) and JOJET - original drummer who never appeared in the earlier albums until the band's 4th - 'Jerangkung Dalam Almari' (1991). There were MUS, MEL and AWIE all together on stage for few songs.

When the band hit "Peronda Jaket Biru" and later "Inspirasi Taming Sari", we maniacally sang our heart out, and we believed, so did the rest. The set list was a good blend (great to finally hear those underrated ones like "Jerangkung Dalam Almari" and "Romania" for example), but it will be killer should we also get "Harapan", "Bujang Senang" and "Midnight Blues". Its not an easy task, the band need to select the right tracks and find tune with the orchestra, to be able to nail it. We are more than happy though the orchestra sounds bigger than the band itself in some songs.

The crowds were encouraging, but what more can you expect from them, watching a rock show in seats ?I JOE (guitar) was full of persona, wrapped mysteriously in hoody and sunglass. While, EDDIE (bass) and BLACK (drum) were simply fantastic. AWIE (vocal) on the other hand was too comical, cranking too much jokes on stage, though his vocal prowness was still one of the best after all these long. Hell-yes, it was a great show indeed.

The cult is alive up on the Scottish highlands !? We really look forward to this - a rare Scots Black Metal band. The fact is, NECRONOCLAST already has 3 releases under MORIBUND RECORDS - 'The Plague' (2007), 'Monument' (2008 re-release) and 'Haven' (2008). As well as a couple of demo/EP earlier in 2004/2005.

One man band normally has its limitation, and we are a bit taken back as always. Since with have also experienced somes suprises earlier (especially those one-man assault under MORIBUND RECORDS) we would like to keep the expectation clearly open this time.

So, what did GREG EDWARDS (all) offered here ? The album centred on fast melodic Black Metal with depressive element. A bit complex structure-wise and cold & epic in some parts that would bring us closer to HELLVETO despite the Polish one man band is structurally more majestic, dynamic and heavy synth/keyboard oriented. But we find NECRONOCLAST is walking the simliar path (apparently in the tracks "Ashes" and "Kajicnicke Saty").

Credit need to be given to GREG EDWARDS nevertheless ! The album will appeal well to listeners who appreciate something innovative, more than just a straight forward Black Metal assault. Old goat bangers however would be dissapointed, they have to crawl back to the cave and headbang to the mighty PERVERSOR (Chi).

Greece used to take centre stage when it comes to extreme metal, standing proud with ROTTING CHRIST ('Thy Mighty Contract' still fuckin' rule !), VARATHRON, NECROMANTIA, THOU ART LORD etc. We haven't heard anything impressive since then. Was it us who were too ignorant to discover new potential Greek bands ? Or there were really none actually ?

So, let us answer that - Fuck You ! Here is NADIWRATH !

WRATH of DODSFERD returned with this fuckin' heavy bad ass Black Metal outfit. DODSFERD was his one man band, and NADIWRATH is with a complete line up. The band is not interested to be original or whatever fuck, simply, they just wanted to break every necks possible with their hell-speeding riffs.

NADIWRATH is genious in churning killer fuckin' fretworks. Clearly, that cannot be denied ! That is also important for the band to run amok on stage and get the mosh pit soaked in blood. We have no problem with their long track (more than 5 minutes in most occasions) and repetitiveness as clearly this is what NADIWRATH stands for. We still can't stand a long fuckin' title track like DODSFERD did though.

There are 8 tracks here with highlights like "Darkness Has Lost Its Meaning" (part of LEMMY is still trapped in WRATH), "Two Face Shit Fuckers", "There Is No Light" and "Memories Are Dead" - the later two are fuckin' brilliant ! Recommended ! Having said all, we leave you with one important message however - Fuck You !

Imagine a perfect blend of Doom Metal/Psychedelic/Acid Rock ("Metal Movie Marijuana Massacre Meltdown" anyone ?) comes crushing with those heavy, infectious and addictive riffs stamped all over the album. Fuckin killer ! The raw sound sealed the package as 'a must have' !

Formed in 2007, the band has earlier released 'Witchtanic Hellucinations' debut full length (2008) and two 7'EPs 'Witch House' (2009) and 'Midnight Mass' (2010). While, this album featured 10 top notch tracks of head-'bong'-ing extravagenza.

For those who has no fuckin' idea of ACID WITCH, just have a taste of "Live Forever" and take a trip back to the 70's. Groove on and please do watch out for the organ solo along the way ...

An interesting year 2010 was ! After more than 5 years of silence, we have finally started working for the new ISSUE # 6 (we wonder, do people care ?! we don't give a damn either !). Based on the positive pace that we've made, the new issue is goin' to crush the readers tentatively by the last quarter of 2010. This is the commitment that we have given to the bands.

Albeit it is goin' to take us about 12 months of adrenalin rush and bloody hell putting everything together, it looks that we were on track to meet the dateline (if there was any ?!). However, we have re-scheduled the release to a later date due to major technical setbacks that we were unable to solve. At least, this provided us with suffice time to bring in more killer bands that we have recently came across.

Gladly to say, we have continued working with those few but dedicated labels like PAGAN RECORDS (Pol), MORIBUND RECORDS (USA), HELLS HEADBANGERS RECORDS (USA) etc. We greatly appreciated their trust despite some delay in our part in getting the review out on time due to our tight commitments, our apology.

To our suprise, none of the many local labels were brave enough to work with us. Keep up the good works anyway !

PAGAN RECORDS has always been significant, uncompromised, offering only finest Polish extreme metal and served as the initial platform for new bands. Take BEHEMOTH for example - they started with PAGAN RECORDS and released two demos - 'The Return Of The Northern Moon' (1993) and 'From The Pagan Vastlands' (1994), as well as their debut album - Sventevith' (1995) before took off to be the band that you all knew today.

And those two early demos that led us to set a mail interview with BEHEMOTH back in 1995, which was answered by BAAL RAVENLOCK (drum). It was our first overseas interview and we were definitely on fire to receive his reply in just 1 month time. The questions were interesting, and that statement came from BAAL RAVENLOCK. These are some of the things that inspired us to spill blood on every issues before we finally felt abrupt in 2000 (Issue # 4 was scheduled to be out in 2000 but was delayed until Jan '2005).

Coming back to the release, what we have here is a 2-tracks EP from Polish Black Metal band - BLAZE OF PERDITION. The band has earlier unleashed 'Deus Rex Nihilium Est' EP (materials taken from the split with Russian PSEUDOGOD) and 'Towards The Blaze Of Perdition' debut album.

BLAZE OF PERDITION is impressive with their power pack display of Black Metal, fast and tight plus the usual mid paced melodic break. Excellent sound as well. We have no problem with that but musically, it was something that has been done by many before. No harm to own a copy by the way.

This is fuckin' madness ! Polish supremo - MASSEMORD returned with their 3rd album - comprised of a single track mesmerising for 35 minutes long. This album (if we can called it one) proved that MASSEMORD is the best in taking Black Metal into a far reach dimension. It opened with this heavy punishing riff, a simple one though, playing on and on (Drone ?) until the synth/effect creep in and shaped everything like one transcedental journey into utter darkness. Brilliant ! Their music is far from static, changing direction later with some fast parts in between and touches of experimental/industrial felt - its like a different phase all together. NAMTAR's vocal is really at his best.

This album is a big 'fuck off' to those same lame Black Metal bands that we are getting too tired with. Both FURIA and MASSEMORD basically consist of the same members. But as what NAMTAR (vocal) put it to us - FURIA and MASSEMORD are like two fantastic girls, of which one sucks as hell and the other is not afraid to experiment with her rectum. Fuckin' brilliant ! Highly recommended !

Frankly, a one-man band doesn't really impressed us, though we do acknowledge that a few did stand out however. HEARESIARCHS OF DIS doesn't really moved us either at first. Then again, we trust that MORIBUND RECORDS is one of those long dedicated extreme label that will never wimped out.

Musicwise, it's basically Pagan Black Metal allright, primitive and fast ("Median Existere" & "Ad Baculum" are outstanding !) with blackish screaming. There are also some symphonic background vocal that sounded more like those Viking bands, string showcase ("The Respite"), touches of ambient ("Nine Days They Fell"), experimental ("Intent Concupicense") etc. Avant Garde perhaps ? Norwegian Black Metal with elements of FLUERTY & ISENGARD ? Better said, it's a kind of 'Yin' and 'Yang' in Black Metal, an opposite contrast yet they supplement each other sufficely and put everything into balance - equilibrium. There are 13 tracks that will keep your ear intact to the music till end.

The most suprising is the track "Bemoan The Fallen". What the fuck ?! Accoustic pagan/folk ?! Awesome ! (we thought it was Jack Black & Kyle Gass - TENACIOUS D). We find those instrumental tracks however are taking too much spaces in the album - perhaps it might represent something important to CERNUNNOS, but we don't think listeners would care. The drumming sounded mechanical by the way (drum machine ?).

Yet, the album is extraordinary interesting for listeners to check out.

DENOUNCEMENT PYRE is finally here to claim the throne ! This is the band long awaited debut album after 7 years in existence with only demos & EPs under their bullet belt. It is worth the long wait !

This album is predictably very much straight forward with thrash drive, a bit repetitive but effectively delivered. We don't think that excessive technicality or complexity is needed here, no, not with this genre, but their cutthroat riffings are too excellent to ignore. Hellish riffs that were meant to conquer heaven. Those who seek for a perfect blend of extremity, darkness, chaos and power, well, 'World Cremation' will give you that ! There are 8 tracks here with fuckin' killer raw sound !

The 1st track "Black Womb Of Magdalene" really set the flame with its intensity, dark surrounding and speeding at full throttle. We thought we heard some moment from our Malaysian own BRAINDEAD's "Unholy Sin" in the 2nd track "The Flesh Of Thy Master". Yet, they loose out some speed in the mid-part of the album - take "Salvation, The Fading Light" for example, is very Greek-sounding (circa early VARATHRON/ROTTING CHRIST) with its doomy approach and melodic riffing. They then closed the album with one of their finest here "Invination Of Poison" (fuckin' killer !). This is definitely one of the best album in 2010. Get this one at any cost ! Highly recommended !

By the way, the first 100 copies of the LP come in white vinyl.

This Polish 4-pieces stayed deep in the underground and take inspiration from real ones like HELLHAMMER, SACROFAGO, BLASPHEMY, ARCHGOAT etc. They have earlier released 2 demos 'Something Wicked, Raw And Ugly' (2004) and 'Drink The Poisoned Piss Of Baphomet' (2005). It took them more than 5 years however to come out with this debut.

There are 15 tracks of Black/Death Metal here, which some are short and straight forward (the 2nd track "Genocide" are Grind-like short - less than a minute ? While, a few others are less than 2-minutes). Musically, BLASPHEMY RITES drops like a bomb with their no bullshit 'in your face' metal assault - chaotic riffing, machine gun like drumming and loud pounding bass. They take control and don't give a fuck what listeners have to say ! You either stand up and take it or simply walk away. Their CELTIC FROST cover - "Dethroned Emperor" is real killer - heavy like hell !

Our heathen brothers returned with a single track MCD that runs for nearly 20 minutes. They have earlier released a 3-tracks 10' MLP 'Huta Laura/Katowice/Krolewska Huta' (limited to 200 copies) - killer raw recording and this is where 'Halny' will start to take shape.

FURIA is always unbelievable. Their music speaks for itself. But they have gone too far this time - experimental, complex, jazz - yes, psychodelic as they put it ! It's innovative in the sense. We can still trace their trademarks especially in the final minutes where they closed the track brilliantly.

Yes, we are dissapointed, yet we trust that 'Halny' is a one-time (exclusive) release and will not represent their future musical direction. But still it is inevitable that FURIA will continue to evolve.

Remember Norwegian finest Pagan Black Metal band IN THE WOODS ? They stormed the scene with their excellent 'Isle Of Men' demo (1993) and 'Heart Of The Ages' debut (1995) but later moved away into something different - try 'Strange In Stereo' (1999).

This release is ONLY recommended to all those FURIA diehards. Others will left it untouched on the rack just after first listening. So stay away ! You will not understand !

This two Greek one-man bands centred on the same soul - WRATH (vocal/guitar). DODSFERD has been spreading black plague since 2001 (with demo, split & albums out), while MORTOVATIS is a mere project band.

DODSFERD is a Black Metal band that rocks ! There are two new tracks here (to be released as 7' EP under OBSCURE ABHORRENCE PRODUCTIONS) and one live set. It is ashamed that we only get to know them recently (thanks to our brother NATHAN), when they really nailed us at just first listening - check out the track "Only Thorn Can Embrace Your Condemned Throne" that opened with only drum beat and bass line (old school, MOTORHEAD perhaps) before storming into speed, raw delicious cunt-licking riff and top-notch hate-full vocal.

The other track "Another Two Of Your Scars And The World Is Dead'' is differently structured, slow pace and depressive this time. Their live track "You Called It Resurrection, I Called It Fairytale For Human Parasite, Your Kind" is one bloody set and is the best here (the crude sound and arrangement reminds us of TASYIM - Malaysian cult Death Metal band). While, what MORTOVATIS offers is one long 20 minutes track of cosmic experimental doom metal which we don't find it interesting. We don't think that WRATH should dabble more times with MORTOVATIS when DODSFERD stands with potential. We would appreciate a more shorter title track next time by the way. Only DODSFERD is recommended !

The band may sounds clinch, but the album is damn entertaining. This is hard rockin' Heavy Metal for the drunk one ! Reminiscence strongly of WASP ("I Wanna Be Somebody" anyone ?!) - with BLACKIE LAWLESS like vocal off course. ARMOUR has been kickin' ass since 2006 with a number of EPs out.

This self-title debut album will put listeners ass on fire with their up-tempo music, killer fretworks, galloping drumming ("Satan's Knights") and sing along chorus (check out "The Time Is Right" and "Sex Demon"). Perfect production for this type of music by the way.

We might have listen to something like this so many times before, but ARMOUR rocks like nobody business ! Play this one fuckin' loud ! There are 10 tracks of Heavy Metal orgasm here. Recommended !

This one obscure South America band really terrorized everything into pieces with their raw and dirty Black/Thrash with definite cult sound. Bands from this part of the world are always famous for their bestial recordings. PERVERSOR is simply satan thrashing in good old leather, spike and bullet belt ! This is Chile best kept secret !

What you have here is a big fuck-off to all those polished sounding crap releases coming out from modern studio, these Chilean just needs dungeon to produce this ! The recording is prehistoric but the spirit is monstrous. The 1st track "Denotate" basically exploded with their ultrafast nuclear assault. PERVERSOR brings hell straight to your door step !

This MCD/MLP features 5 tracks for nearly 18 minutes and we don't think that listeners will get enough. The band has earlier released their debut 'Cult Of Destruction' in 2008 (under NUCLEAR WAR NOW PRODUCTIONS) and having heard this, we will definitely hunt for a copy. Excellent release put out by HHR ! Highly recommended to all those blood soaking old goat bangers outhere !

Another classic reissue from DISPLEASED RECORDS. This time from the legendary USA Thrash Metal band - SACRED REICH. The release best served to celebrate the band 25 years of thrashing madness. The album is their 3rd full-length originally released by METAL BLADE RECORDS in 1993. Take note that this reissue version comes with 5 rare bonus tracks :- 3 tracks taken from 'A QUESTION' EP 1991 ; the track "The Big Picture" (MILLIONS of DEATH COPS' cover) was taken from 'OPEN BOOK/THE BIG PICTURE' SINGLE 1993 and the track "Crawling (Radio Edit)" was taken from 'CRAWLING' SINGLE 1993.

Despite the band had earlier released 'DRAINING YOU OF LIFE' demo (1985), full-length debut 'IGNORANCE' (1987) and 'SURF NICARAGUA' EP (1988), we only get to know them seriously way later via their 2nd full length 'THE AMERICAN WAY' (1990).

The band is also lyrically political/social. 'SURF NICARAGUA' EP for example, is their critical response towards USA waged war against NICARAGUA - an attempt to topple the local government there. While the track "Who's To Blame" is about neglected childrens - "Music is no cause of death, it's you who suffocates. Who's to be responsibe for a life that's gone off track, who's the one who must be there to see it gets put back. Where were you to hear the cries of a person in need, were you there to see the signs or were you too busy".

This is one definite thrashing moment revisited - 16 remastered tracks in limited Digipack. It has been 17 long years since the original release but our fist is still pumping high. This is a must have ! Get it now ! Hail SACRED REICH !

After goin' hiatus for 5 years, we think it's time to return with a new issue ! We don't think that most of you will get excited when reading this. It is your choice to ignore because we simply don't care ! We are here to preserve this old form of underground network - fanzine.

To be frank, we have been working quietly since early this year. With the pace we are making, a new issue looks possible in 2010. At the time of writing this, we have in hand some killer interviews from the depth of hell. We won't name any at this juncture, but certainly the issue will be our best thus far.

Then again, we are still looking for dedicated obscure extreme metal bands to be given a page. We also tried to find times to listen to more bands by establishing working relationship with labels. Time is our worst enemy at the moment !

HELLVETO is Polish one man band playing Orchestral Pagan Black Metal. We have heard the name before but the term 'orchestral' does not really excite us that much to check them out.

Having unleashed more than 20 releases (including demos etc) since 1996, HELLVETO finally proved us otherwise. Their brand of Orchestral Black Metal was interestingly crafted - epic and dynamic. The keyboard shaped the symphonic/atmospheric part without sounded too lame. The 2nd track "Glod" is a perfect example.

The album offers 6-tracks of mindblowing journey into oblivion. It however took us longer than usual to really digest the materials. For us, it is indeed a very good first experience. But be cautious, don't consume to it excessively ...

This EP opened with style, killer heavy Death/Thrash tracks - "Worthy Of Hell" (the heavy riffing rocks !) and "Reap The Nuclear Whirlwind" (re-recorded) that will kick listeners' ass so badly. Each tracks also start with sampling - from movie probably.

The band has earlier released 'Unholy Banners Of Victimizer' (Demo 2001 re-released), 'Rapid Thrashing Violence' (live album) and 'The Final Assault' (debut album).

VICTIMIZER continues to stand proud and this release will not dissapoint you !

The Aussie Extreme Metal Scene is brewing with power ! What we have here now is HUNTERS MOON - an Aussie Epic Black Metal band that will crush you with their 4 tracks MCD (excluding intro & outro).

What stand out the most is their killer sound which is old and epic. The band walked the path of BATHORY ('Blood Fire Death') and this is reflected in their first two tracks - "A Light In The Abyss" and "The Ravens Swoon". We can also hear touches of IMMORTAL in the riffs. The track "The Baphomet" is however old school and fast pace in the vein of godly VENOM (It was actually ANGEL WITCH's cover as clarified by DECAYLUST. How can we have missed it ?!)

All hail to CHASE & HHR for this release ! Killer ! The MCD is however too short, it just ain't enough !

CEREKLOTH came together in 2008 with members from CHURCH BIZZARE - guitarist A. Larsen and basist C. Norgaard. This MCD is a re-released of their 7 'EP with one exclusive track. There are 4 tracks here of Brutal Death Metal in the vein of the old USA bands.

The release opened with the ultra-heavy "Pandemonium Prayers" which is the best track here. The drumming kills as JARRO RAPHAEL used to destroy many drumsets earlier with DESTROYER 666, NOCTURNAL GRAVES, DESTRUKTOR ('Nuclear Storm' EP) etc.

There are definitely some cool moments here and there, like the killer riff in "Touch Of The Scythe" for example. But overall, this MCD just doesn't bite ! We are left with no scar so to speak ...

We remembered asking CYCLONUS SERPENTIIS of Filipino Black Metal band KAMBING about DEIPHAGO back in 1999. DEIPHAGO was at that time plauged with line-up problem. They are Filipino oldest Black Metal band spawned in 1989 but has now relocated to COSTA RICA.

DEIPHAGO is all about Black 'fuckin' Metal. Their music is a sheer reflection of hell - chaos, primitive, raw, ultra-fast and dirty. Short and straight to the face ! No compromise ! There are 11 tracks here with intro and outro. Musicwise, Finnish Black Metal bands might come to mind like early works from BEHERIT and IMPALED NAZARENE. It will be a total blasphemy if we don't mention BLASPHEMY (Can) here. But "Filipino Antichrist" stands on its own. This is cult Black Metal !

PAGAN RECORDS has always been a label dedicated to the real extreme metal music (no compromise!) and run by extreme metal diehard - TOMASZ KRAJEWSKI. Prior setting up the label, TOMASZ was the editor of the mighty HOLOCAUST FANZINE.

We began writing to TOMASZ somewhere back in 1996/1997, started as a mail order customer. Soon after the released of our second issue, the working relationship started to evolve. He send us promos from HERMH - "Angeldemon" and LUX OCCULTA - "Dionysos". The materials were reviews in our third issue.

A few more promos reached us while we were working on our fourth issue in 1999 from bands like TRAUMA (Pol) - "Daimonion", ESQARIAL (Pol) - "Amorphous" and VARATHRON (Gre) - "Lament Of The Gods". But the said issue never managed to release on schedule, not until 5 years later with the review column scrapped.

It is great to have finally get back in touch with TOMASZ and PAGAN RECORDS. Hail metal brother !

This is excellent heavy stuff ! EVOKEN plays Doom Metal with heavy Death Metal influence. No exprimental shit ! They are one of American oldest Doom/Death bands, having been around since 1992 when they started as FUNEREUS.

Their touches of Death Metal can be traced in the track "Tower Of Frozen Dusk". While they also unleashed their sudden Death Metal attack in the mid-part of the track "Shades Of Night Descending".

"Shades Of Night Descending" was originally released as their second demo in 1994. French ADIPOCERE RECORDS later re-released the same materials in MCD format in 1996. While, this reissue version comes with rarities - materials from their Promo 1996 and 1997.

In our opinion, the genre - Funeral Doom Metal is best refered to SKEPTICISM (Fin). It was back in 1998/1999 when PATRICK and RED STREAM RECORDS send us promo for "Lead And Aether" and later "Aes". They heavily incorporated keyboard, church organ and war drum/tom that made the music sounded really funeral-like - especially in "Lead And Aether".

Imagine, a one man band with 20 releases under its belt. Fronted solely by SIN-NANNA, he seems to has abundance lots of idea.

Whenever an Aussie extreme metal band came to mind, we expected all hell to break loose. But what we have here instead is 6 tracks of ambient black metal. The music is melodic and straighforward. Quite monotonous though ! The interesting part was we can't even understand the need for the band to include the instrumental track "Requiem For A Lonely Ghost" - an outro ?

With such kind of arrangement, no wonder the band can suprised us with their long list of discography ...

But, they redeemed back a bit with the raw guitar - notable in tracks like "Southwest Passage" and "All Contempt Reciprocated". While, the production is fair enough to make the materials sounds dark and obscure. We believed this is what the band aimed for.

What the hell is this ? Extreme ? Yes ! But we can't relate to what the band is trying to offer. This is torture turned into music. Extremely experimental and dark with touches of industrial and sampling. While, the vocal is nearly absence here, what we can hear instead is just their scream of agony.

What you get here is only one track running for 77 minutes long. We fully agreed that BUNKUR is different, extremely different beyond anything you can imagine. But we are not sure whether listeners can still survive after being tortured by such. But frankly, we can't ...

It was a great step taken by DISPLEASED RECORDS to reissue this 1995 classic. The band has earlier signed with the cult label DEATHLIKE SILENCE PRODUCTION but the album never came thru. It was finally released under MISANTHROPY RECORDS later.

This is actually the third time "In Absentia Christi" has been released after the one under MISANTHROPY RECORDS (1995) and a limited self-released version (2007). While for Malaysian market, it was available under STRANGE CULTURE RECORDS (under licensed) back in 1998.

MONUMENTUM gives you dose of avant garde doom metal at its best - majestic, melodic and dark. The album set a high mark that no band has ever came close. So, should we say more ?

The one here came out with 10 tracks with one bonus. Definitely a must have for those who appreciate original metal music. For those new listeners, its better late than never. We don't think that the album will see any more reissue.

Our time with RON & DISPLEASED RECORDS started way back in 1997. We have just released our second issue, so we wrote him for possible working relationship.

He was supportive, replying back fast along with promos from bands like SADIST (Ita) - "Crust", ETERNAL SOLSTICE (Hol) - "Demonic Fertilizer", UNLORD (?) - "Schwarzwald", PENTACLE (Hol) - "The Fifth Moon" and SMELL LIKE TEAM SPIRIT II (comp-album). Later, more promos arrived from bands like ALTAR (Hol) - "Provoke", NEMBRIONIC (Hol) - "Incomplete" and MANEGARM (Swe) - "Nordstjarnans Tidsalder". All were reviewed in our third issue.

When we started working for our fourth issue in 1999, he continued sending more promos from bands like EVEN SONG (Hun) - "Path Of The Angels", WHIPLASH (USA) - "Messages In Blood", HOUWITSER (Hol) - "Death But Not Buried", VESPERIAN SORROW (USA) - "Beyond The Cursed Eclipse", KUNTAUTCULT (Hol) - "From The Pits" and SMELL LIKE TEAM SPIRIT III (comp-album). But unfortunately, as the plan for the new issue fall abrupt (supposely to be out in 2000), none of the review saw the light.

After nearly 10 years of losing bond, we finally e-mailed RON recently, telling him that we have re-commenced our works for a new issue. To our suprise, he replied fast as usual. Thanks to RON and DISPLEASED RECORDS for still believing in us ...

HORMALA FANZINE - ISSUE # 5

When talk started to spread that LANGSUIR has reformed after being inactive for 10 long years, we decided to pay homage to them in our fifth issue.

The issue was released in Nov '2005 as a mini issue - limited to 100 copies for all the LANGSUIRian die-hards.

People might asked, why LANGSUIR ? The simplest why was LANGSUIR is a band that has set a mark in our local metal scene with their creativity and quality song writing. We recalled how excited we were when we first heard the legendary "Occultus Mysticsm" demo 1993 back then. No doubt, it was one of the best demo to ever came out from MALAYSIA.

They were scheduled to come out with their new EP under ORIENTAL ERUPTION (a division of Germany's NAZGUL'S EYRIE PRODUCTIONS) but the plan fall apart when OPYROS decided to end the label. The "Eastern Cruelty" EP was later released by local label NEBUILA PRODUCTION. They were at their peak.

Later they contributed two tracks in IPOH METAL MILITANT SUPREMANCY - a compilation album under ULTRA HINGAX PRODUCTIONS. That was the last time we are to hear from them.

There was always arguement on their unreleased track - "Sumpahan Tujuh Keturunan". Somehow, it was said that the track managed to get caught in tape during their rehearsal at BLACK WIDOW STUDIO (the rehearsal is believed to be in the hand of EAST GOTHIC PRODUCTIONS). We talked to XULHISHAM of METAL STORM a few years back about the track and have also asked for a copy of that recording. However, since he has re-located far from his hometown, it was impossible for him to pass it to us. Tight with other commitments, we don't managed to follow up since then.

In another attempt to secure the recording, we spoke to AZLANTHOR about the track. But he never recalled rehearsing or ever recorded it.

That year was 2005. It has been 12 years since we first wrote to AZLANTHOR for a copy of "Occultus Mysticsm". The band has always been a brother to us. When we finally passed a copy of the mini-issue to AZLANTHOR, he just told us "Salute ! HORMALA still remains underground" ...

HORMALA FANZINE - ISSUE # 4

Despite our tight schedule, we managed to have 9 interviews done somewhere in 1999/2000 with KAMBING (Phi), SCULPTURED (USA), AIMING HIGH (Jap), TWISTED TOWER DIRE (USA), CEMETARY (Jap), STEEL WARRIOR (Bra) and VRYKOLAKAS (Sin) as well as local bands like PAHANG's obscure Death Metal tyrant TASYIM and PERAK's Heavy Metal groovers EVENTIDE HORIZON.

The column SERUAN TANJUNG PUTERI continued with LOGAM and PURNAMARJUNA (initially known as PENANGGALS).

While, questions send to WARHAMMER (Ger) never got to their attention. Should they reply, it will be one hell of a discussion. They were heavilly influenced by the cult band HELLHAMMER, so we asked them why. With no oppose to HELLHAMMER, we pointed out that HELLHAMMER was just a band resembling the mighty VENOM. THOMAS GABRIEL FISHER later in his biography - "Are You Morbid ? Into The Pandemonium Of Celtic Frost" (published in 2000) admitted that his phase with HELLHAMMER was all about copying their idol - VENOM. But CELTIC FROST innovates - the master of avant-garde rock. Perhaps, this was where VOLKER found the questions irrelevant.

Yet again, things did not turned out as planned. This time, we plunged into metal hibernation for nearly 5 years. None of the interviews were made public. We lost touch with so many great peoples.

In late 2004, we gathered all strengths left and started working again. It has been 6 years since the last issue was out in 1998. We are plagued by shitty setbacks everywhere (no lame excuses here!). All reviews kept in file for years were all corrupted. We were unable to go thru a new listening session, especially in a rush, as we will not be able to form opinion true to the materials. With apology to all labels, the review section was bitterly taken out. Things didn't seem to allow us to make an easy comeback.

The fourth issue was finally released in Jan '2005. Despite the long delay, we send all the bands a compliment copy. But still we are not sure whether it reached all. The distribution was passed to MUZIK BOX PRODUCTIONS for assistance.

The metal scene has came into a new era. Fanzine, once served as the heart of the underground scene, has now been left forgotten. Information can now be easily obtained, anytime, anywhere via the internet.

Despite the challenges, we we determined to preserve the old form of network. We have started our journey to immortality ..

HORMALA FANZINE - ISSUE # 3

We resumed works will full forces. There was always room for further improvement. PENANG's northern sons of darkness MISTIK was the first to response. We also gave a page to KEDAH's new talent SAILENDRA (after releasing "Akhtaj Paksina" demo '1998, they later dissapeared). While from SINGAPORE, we have KIBOSH SIBYL KISMET and BEAST PETRIFY.

During the period, we still continue to maintain contact with MISANTHROPY RECORDS. As a way to extend our support, yet still doubtful on the outcomes, we have taken a bold step to feature NORWAY's supremos like MAYHEM (re-activated with Necrobutcher, Hellhammer, Maniac and Blasphemer of AURA NOIR), BURZUM (touching on their new album made in prison "Daudi Baldrs"), ARCTURUS (working on their second album "La Masquarade Infernale") and HAGALAZ' RUNEDANCE (fronted by ANDREA - wife of SAMOTH of EMPEROR and interestingly play traditional folk music). These bands were at that time signed under MISANTHROPY RECORDS.

If memory served us well, there were strong talk circulating back then that big Norwegian bands do not answer interview no more. With all the chaos that happened, it appeared that these group of elites were trying to isolate themselves.

As expected, none reply.

Things got more exciting when questions send to HELL-BORN (Pol), INFERNAL BEAUTY (Bel) and SADNESS (Swi) never found its way home. Things didn't always came out as planned.

We finally received fantastic response from Occult Metal supremist LUX OCCCULTA (Pol) - they were celebrating the released of their highly acclaimed second album "Dionysos" under PAGAN RECORDS. The same with AURA (Hol) and CALLENISH CIRCLE (Hol).

A new column - SERUAN TANJUNG PUTERI was introduced, dedicated to the JOHOR METAL SCENE - our hometown. It featured interviews with FADZIL and MUZIK BOX PRODUCTIONS, NARSAMUM (still breathing fire after all these long), TANDUS (old school ass kickin' deathrasher) and ATROCIOUS (southern darkest sons).

We released the third issue in Nov '1998. It was significant, reaching greater distance. On postive notes, TOMASZ and PAGAN RECORDS acknowledged our effort.

After distributing the first print of original copies, we were unable to find adequate time to continue to response to mail orders. We were hand tight with commitments.

Our brother XULHISHAM of WARLOCK REVENGE PUBLISHING later came in and assisted us in the distribution. It was re-issued in smaller size and in blood red cover for the last 100 copies probably.

We never expected that the years to follow will hold so much uncertainty ...

HORMALA FANZINE - ISSUE # 2

We began to work immediately after the released of our debut issue. At least, we are on track to release one new issue every year - it is impossible to release issue regularly. Our second issue saw the light in Jun '1997.

There were in-depth interviews with bands like OHURA MAZDO (Jap), REX INFERNUS (Gre), DARKWOODS MY BETROTHED (Fin) ABLAZE MY SORROW (Swe), SECRETS OF THE MOON (Ger) and WITHERING SURFACE (Den). While from our local metal scene, we have MISTERY (ATANNASZ's War Metal band) and two of PERAK's new hopes - PURNAMWULAN and ZUBIRUN.

While our attempt to feature bigger bands like ABSU (USA), MOONSPELL (Por), SATYRICON (Nor) as well as ASIAN deskerators - IMPIETY (Sin) and SIGH (Jap) was to no avail. Such outcomes were inevitable. For the very first time, we have also arranged to get a fanzine editor covered - AZMIE of TERENGGANU's own BLOKONG FANZINE (one of the best black/death metal fanzine to emerge during the period). But unfortunately, it didn't materialised.

The issue also marked our first collaboration with great labels like TOMASZ and PAGAN RECORDS (Pol), CARSTEN and SOLISTITIUM RECORDS (Ger), RON and DISPLEASED RECORDS (Hol) as well as Patrick and RED STREAM RECORDS (USA).

Response was again overwhelming. We received positive review from PURI SILUMAN PEJAJARAN FANZINE issue # 3 - focused on review and interviewing fanzine editors.

While, our brothers AZLI of EAST GOTHIC PRODUCTIONS and ABDUL AZIZ of MUTIARA HITAM PRODUCTIONS assisted us in distributing some copies.

HORMALA FANZINE - ISSUE # 1

The year was 1996, we have been working like hell since May '1995. The local metal scene was brimming with power, fully supported by fanzines from every corner of MALAYSIA. AMIR has just released THY UNHOLY ABYSS issue # 3 in Jan '1996. While, HIMI and AZRIL were working on RAHAB issue # 2 (released in Aug '1996). Darkness was everywhere !

There are goin' to be 12 in-depth interviews, that's the highlight. We were selective, hand-picked dedicated and potential bands only.

With exception of VOCIFERATION ETERNITY, PERAK's finest LANGSUIR and HAYAGRIVA were the earliest to reply. While, SINGAPORE's blackness ITNOS dropped us a mere biography in return. But AS SAHAR replied with all questions well answered.

Suprisingly, it took BEHEMOTH (Pol) only 1 month to answer. They have earlier released their debut album - 'Sventevith - Storming Near The Baltic' under PAGAN RECORDS. But it took 4 - 6 months for SETHERIAL (Swe) and ZEPHYROUS (Gre) to reply - SETHERIAL stormed the scene with their excellent 'A Hail To The Faceless Angels' demo 1994, while, ZEPHYROUS impressed us with their 'Entrance And Wandering On The Seven Zones' demo 1994. Doing mail interviews really test our patience to the limit.

The best part was interviews send to ROTTING CHRIST (Gre), THRONE OF AHAZ (Swe) and IN THE WOODS (Nor) didn't even came back to Malaysian shore. Whether the letters were misled to hell, we have no answer. We also have no problem if bands find our questions uninteresting. While OHURA MAZDO (Jap) slightly missed the dateline.

But looking back, we tend to agree with ANTOINETTE (of now defunct English label MISANTHROPY RECORDS) that these bands have so much mail and interviews to do all the time. So sometimes it is impossible for them to answer everything. If they can answer it they surely will ...

Mac '1996 saw the released of our debut issue, purposely circulated in limited copies. Response was mostly overwhelming. Sales figure was not our concern. But we believe that we have so much to offer ...
