When 'Image of Purity' (1991) was released, the cassette tape simply blown everything away. We still remembered well that it urged us so greatly that we picked up a pen and wrote to the band as to show our support. We never expected that many months later, a festive greeting card reached us in return. It was from CROMOK.
Everybody was excited when the band headed home from Australia and hit the stage for the first time at Life Centre (1992) with SUFFERCATION as opening act. OGY (BLACKSKULL) came in for the late DIN on guitar (DIN had left the band at that time). A few of the live tracks appeared in the re-released version of 'Image Of Purity' and a 'live' CD of the show was also available somewhere.
The long-awaited 2nd album 'Forever In Time' (1993) disappointed those who hope that the album will be in the vein of 'Image of Purity'. The album was recorded professionally hence lost much of that killer raw sounding (perhaps 'Image Of Purity' was only a demo). The remaining trio of Sam (bass), Karl (guitar) and Miji (drum) still kicked ass however. A good album nevertheless.
Though CROMOK continued after 'Yours Truly' (1996), but to us personally, they simply have lost the magic when Karl left. The inclusion of Hillary to replace Karl felt abrupt on us and pushed us far away from CROMOK. No one can deny that Hillary was one talented guitarist. Though he brought in his experience, it just ain't CROMOK anymore.
The only 2 cassette tapes that we still kept tight until today were 'Image Of Purity' and 'Forever In Time'. These are 2 classic albums and it described well what CROMOK was all about back then.
Now, do you finally get it why this reunion show is special ?
Walking down memory lanes, here are some newspaper cuttings from our collection about CROMOK dated way back in 1993 (credit to the journalist - Seri Intan Othman & Samsor Junet).
